Wall-Mounted Shelves vs. Under-Shelves vs. Overshelves - Which Do You Need?
Not sure which type of stainless steel shelving fits your space? Here's the difference:
Wall-mounted shelves fix directly to the wall above bench height, freeing up your entire benchtop for dry storage, utensils, or small appliances. Best when floor and bench space are both tight.
Under-shelves sit beneath an existing benchtop, using the dead space between the legs. They're the go-to option when you want more storage without adding anything to your walls or footprint.
Overshelves mount directly onto the benchtop itself, adding a second storage tier above your prep surface. Best for keeping frequently used items within arm's reach without walking to a wall or bending under a bench.
If you're retrofitting a kitchen with limited wall space, under-shelves are usually the easier install. If your walls are clear but your bench space is precious, wall-mounted shelves make the most of vertical real estate.
Prosumer Floating Shelves & Mounted Kitchen Racks
Built from 430-grade stainless steel, our Prosumer wall shelves are the practical middle ground between light-duty home storage and full commercial-grade shelving. They deliver reliable corrosion resistance and a clean, polished finish suited to dry storage areas - cafés, catering stations, workshops, and food trucks that don't need the constant-moisture rating of our Heavy Duty range.
Available from 900 x 300 x 240mm up to 1800 x 300 x 240mm, each shelf is wall-mounted and rated to hold up to 200kg on concrete walls, or 60kg on wooden surfaces - plenty for dry goods, utensils, small appliances, or packaged stock.
See full specs and pricing on the Prosumer Wall Shelves page.
Heavy Duty Pipe Shelves & Solid Industrial Wallshelves
For commercial kitchens and wet or high-traffic areas, our Heavy Duty range steps up to full 304-grade stainless steel, available in two styles depending on what you're storing:
Solid Wall Shelves - a flat, closed surface ideal for dry stock, small appliances, or containers where you don't want anything falling through. Available in widths from 600mm to 1800mm, all at a fixed 300mm depth.
Piped Wall Shelves - an open, pipe-style shelf that allows airflow and drainage, making it the better choice for dish areas, wet storage, or anywhere humidity and moisture need to escape rather than pool. Same size range: 600mm to 1800mm wide, 300mm depth.
Both are wall-mounted with welded supports and rear fixings for straightforward installation, and both are built to handle continuous commercial use.

Frequently Asked Question About Stainless Steel Wall Shelves
What's the difference between a wall shelf and an under-shelf?
A wall shelf mounts directly to the wall above your bench, freeing up floor and bench space entirely. An under-shelf fits beneath an existing benchtop, using space you already have without adding anything to your walls. Choose a wall shelf if your bench space is tight; choose an under-shelf if your wall space is limited or you want to keep everything at one workstation.
How much weight can a stainless steel wall shelf hold?
It depends on the grade, mounting surface, and size. Our Prosumer wall shelves hold up to 200kg on concrete walls and 60kg on wooden walls. Heavy Duty solid and piped wall shelves are rated for continuous commercial use and higher loads - check the specific product page for exact figures based on width.
Should I choose a solid shelf or a piped (open) shelf?
Solid shelves give you a flat, closed surface, best for dry stock, containers, and small appliances where you don't want items falling through. Piped shelves are open and allow airflow and drainage, making them the better choice for wet areas, dish stations, or anywhere moisture needs to escape rather than collect.
What grade of stainless steel do I need for wall shelving?
For dry storage areas, 430-grade (used in our Prosumer range) offers strong corrosion resistance at a lower cost. For commercial kitchens, wet areas, or continuous heavy use, 304-grade (used in our Heavy Duty range) is the better long-term choice.
Can wall shelves be installed in a wet area or near a sink?
Yes, but choose the right style. Heavy Duty Piped Wall Shelves are designed for exactly this - their open design lets water drain and air circulate, reducing the risk of pooling or corrosion compared to a solid shelf in the same spot.
Do I need a professional to install stainless steel wall shelves?
Our shelves come with welded supports and rear wall fixings for straightforward installation. Most customers with basic tools and stud-finding equipment can install them without a tradesperson, though we always recommend confirming your wall type (concrete vs. plasterboard/timber) can support the rated weight before mounting.
